Handmade in Indonesia and light enough for all day
A pair of dragonfly earrings in silver and abalone shell, made by hand in Indonesia. Each dragonfly has a silver body and wings of abalone, the shell of the paua sea snail, which flashes blue, green and violet as the light moves across it, so the wings shimmer like the real insect's. The earrings are 4cm long and weigh 6g the pair, light enough to wear all day on a hook fitting. The dragonfly is the symbol of change and lightness in Japanese and Native American tradition and of the water element in many others, and it is a motif that suits summer, linen and anyone who dislikes heavy jewellery. Silversmithing with shell inlay is a Balinese craft, and these are made in the island's workshops, each pair cut and set by hand, so the shell's colours differ from one pair to the next. Boxed for giving.
Silver and abalone shell, hook fitting. 4 x 2cm. Weighs 6g the pair. From Indonesia.
