A medium holder for a shelf or a bedside altar

A medium Hamsa incense holder in soapstone, 13 by 9cm, with the Flower of Life carved into the palm of the open hand. The Flower of Life is the pattern of overlapping circles found at Abydos in Egypt and in temples across the ancient world, the sacred geometry symbol of creation, and set into the Hamsa, the hand of protection from the Mediterranean and the Middle East, it makes a holder for people who like their symbols layered. Soapstone carves finely and weighs well, 320g here, so the detail is sharp and the holder does not shift with a stick in it, and the stone's natural veining shows through. The hole takes a standard stick and the ash falls along the hand. Carved by hand in India, each piece a little different. The medium size fits a bedside or a desk; the large seven chakra version is the shelf piece.

Soapstone, carved. 13 x 9cm. Weighs 320g. From India.
