A clear rock quartz pendulum: a faceted point of natural quartz on a silver-plated chain around 170mm long, with a small gemstone bead at the end to hold. Clear quartz is the neutral stone of crystal practice, the one that leans towards no particular quality and is read as amplifying whatever question or intention it is used with, and that makes it the pendulum most teachers recommend first and the one most dowsers keep as an everyday tool. Dowsing is one of the oldest divination practices there is, going back thousands of years in Egypt and China, and a pendulum is still the simplest form of it: hold it still, ask, and read the swing.
